PHOTOJOURNALISM

IMG_7193.JPG
Photojournalism holds a critical role in news media as it serves to document events visually, providing immediate and impactful evidence of occurrences. Photographs within journalistic contexts can evoke emotional responses and create a sense of connection that complements written narratives. They offer a visual proof that can corroborate stories, sometimes revealing aspects that words cannot capture. This visual documentation also serves as a historical archive, bearing witness to events and preserving them for future generations. By including photojournalism with news stories, the audience is given a more immersive experience, allowing for a deeper understanding of the context and nuances of the reported events. As for myself, photography has always been a creative gateway that allows me to capture so much emotion and beauty in one moment that will last forever. I consider it one of the most important parts of journalism.

SPORTS/SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHY

Since freshman year I've photographed for sports. Beginning the year with such a small staff, I had to step up and learn the way around a camera fast. During the 2023-2024 school year, I received a sports media scholarship from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at Perkinston. As a result, I plan to continue to pursue photography/media while at college.

PERSONAL PHOTOGRAPHY

I've taken the skills I've learned through journalism and applied them into my everyday life. Photography is now one of my top hobbies and side hustles.
